Hayle Old Cornwall Society celebrates its 95th Anniversary
Hayle Old Cornwall Society celebrated its 95th Anniversary, at the Passmore Edwards Institute, on Friday 2nd February. The society was founded in 1923 and has over 70 members. A set of mugs, depicting the society ‘Landing of the Saints’ banner logo, were commissioned and are still for sale.
Guests included the president of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, Priscilla Oates, the Mayor of Hayle, Nick Farrar and his wife Angie, the past Grand Bard of the Gorsedh, Mr Jori Ansell and his wife. There were representatives from a number of other Old Cornwall Societies.
In addition to a special anniversary cake, cakes, splits, jam and cream, pasties, nibbles, non-alcoholic drinks and hot drinks were provided, free of charge. The society make a point of supporting local businesses. The President would like to thank Philips, Rodda, the Portreath bakery and Warrens for their support in providing the refreshments.
The anniversary raffle included a new painting donated by Mervyn Sullivan and one by the late Margaret Ryan. The Cornish Arms and St Justin donated prizes, and many other prizes were donated by members of the Society
The entertainment was provided by Thrawd Together , Sandra Easterbrook, Mark Newman, and some dialect by Trevor Smitheram.
